Cairo, a Belgian Malinois with U.S. Navy SEAL Team Six, made history in 2011 during the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound. Sombra, or “Shadow,” the drug-sniffing German Shepherd, sniffed out almost 10 tons of drugs on 300 police operations, resulting in 245 arrests. Sombra was so effective that the Urabeños gang, which is considered one of Columbia’s most notorious cartels, put a $70K bounty on her head. Police moved her to a different location for her protection. Truly a Hero K9.

Topping our list is Loki, a Belgian Malinois who, in 2023, saved an entire family from a house fire in California. Smelling smoke before the alarms, Loki barked furiously and tugged at his owners’ clothes, leading them—and their toddler—out just as flames engulfed the home. Firefighters called it a miracle.
