Hurricane The Most Decorated Police Dog In History
You may have heard of the recent passing of the heroic Belgian Malinois police dog named Hurricane, that passed away on February 12, 2025.

Hurricane’s Heroism
Hurricane became the most decorated police dog in history after his actions on October 22, 2014, when an intruder named Dominic Adesanya scaled the fence at the White House.
Hurricane, who was a Special Operations Canine for the Secret Service, was deployed to stop the intruder. Hurricane managed to wrestle the intruder to the ground so that he could be apprehended by the Secret Service agents despite being punched, kicked, and slammed to the ground.
As a result of the violent actions against Hurricane he suffered damage to his hips and swelling in his legs which led to his retirement in 2016.
Numerous Awards
He was awarded numerous awards for his bravery including the United Stated Secret Service Award for Merit, The PDSA Order of Merit, and the Department of Homeland Security Award for Valor. He was also the first dog to receive the Animals in War and Peace Distinguished Service Medal.
Hurricane’s handler, Marshall Mirarchi, adopted him after his retirement from service. Hurricane remained in his care until his passing in 2025.
Marshall Mirarchi founded an non-profit organization called K9 Hurricane’s Heroes to provide veterinary care for retired police and military dogs. Hurricane’s legacy lives on!
Was Hurricane Really The Most Decorated Or Heroic?
The Belgian Malinois are well suited as police dogs and Hurricane certainly proved his mettle by subduing the intruder and holding him despite the serious injuries that Hurricane sustained during the incident.
Not to disparage Hurricane’s bravery or loyalty at all, but after reading about Hurricane and his many decorations I began to wonder, “Is he the most decorated? Was he the most heroic?” Were there other acts of bravery besides this noteworthy event? I’ve heard many stories of other great war, police, and search and rescue dogs that were responsible for saving lives. Could it be that his notoriety was elevated because the primary event tied to his multiple decorations was for apprehending an intruder at the White House while the president was present?
Further research did not reveal any other notable achievements, however there is no doubt that Hurricane was a highly trained, capable, and loyal K9.
